Students studying French have the opportunity to participate in the annual Concours d'art oratoire, a French language speech writing contest.
Exchanges
YMCA Summer Work Exchange Program - Students who are 16-17 years of age are eligible to apply for the YMCA summer Work Exchange program. Students have the opportunity to participate in a 6 week work exchange in a French speaking area of Canada.
BC-Québec Exchange Program - The B.C.-Quebec Exchange Program is open to French Immersion and Francophone Program students in grades 10 and 11. *Please note that students must apply the year prior to the exchange to be eligible.
Explore Program - The Explore Program is a spring/summer exchange program for students with any French language skill level. There are 2 available programs : 16+ and 13-15 years old.
Encounters With Canada - Students have the opportunity to travel to Ottawa to learn about their country.
Field Trips
Imax - Every year, the grade 9 cohort of Immersion students attends a French language screening of an Imax film.
BC Legislative Assembly - Grade 10 students have the opportunity to do a French language tour of the Parliament building, and depending on availability, may have the opportunity to have a seating in the Gallery and observe our politicians at work.
Post Secondary Studies in French
French Cohort Program at SFU - The French Cohort Program gives students the opportunity to study in both of Canada’s official languages. This program allows students to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in selected areas of study.
University of Victoria - Students can continue their studies in French at the University of Victoria. French language and literature can be a Major or Minor area of study.
Université Sainte Anne - The Université Sainte Anne, located in Nova Scotia, offers a variety of French Language Immersion programs from summer Immersion programs to bilingual degrees.
Foreign Language Assistant Program in France - This program, organized by the Ministry of Education in France, gives young adults the opportunity to spend a year in France working as a teacher's assistant teaching English. Students must be 20-30 years of age and enrolled in a post secondary institution to be eligible.
